I am thinking about recruiting players for a new character class for the Wolf Clan, Wolf Friends. These would be characters that are played as actual Wolves, full-time in the game. They would stay in the form of a wolf and not speak, but communicate through movement, sounds and emotes: Woof, Grrr, Yelp, *whines* *howls* *sniffs* *cries* *snarls* *bears teeth* *poke with nose* *bites them* *rips out their throat* *tears off this hide* *begs* *ears up* *ears lay back* *tail curls* *limps* *licks wounds* *pants* *licks chops* *scratches* *tracking* This is possible through two methods, Ninjitsu Animal Form and by the spell Polymorph now that they have removed the timer. [Edit] Ninjitsu is preferred. Experiments with the polymorph wolf form have shown several reasons that it is not as effective for this type of RP. Do not take Magery on your wolf friend character. Each Wolf Friend can call up his own Wolf Pack. This is possible through three methods, Animal Taming, Necro spell Dark Wolf (gives wolf mastery) and Ninjitsu Mirror Image. [Edit] Taming other wolves, though possible has failed in this type of RP because of the automatic speech it produces. The template would require Fencing to use the claw weapon Tekagi unless something more suitable can be found. [Edit] If a weapon has to be used, Tekagi is preferred. However, wolf friends are not intended to be vastly more powerful than regular wolves and turn out to not have strong PvP or PvM value. Wrestling is the combat skill of choice for sparring/playing/challenging for position/hunting game animals. The Tekagi and other weapons make wolf friends vastly overpowered for normal woodland encounters. To fight off Ogres and such, wolf friends will have to fight as a pack - not alone. What other possible skills? Hiding, Stealth, Tracking, Animal Lore, Veterinary, Healing, Anatomy, Tactics [Edit] Hiding is good, Stealth is very powerful but also too much fun to put a limit on, Tracking is paramount, there is no need for Veterinary if wolf friends are not training animals, Healing - I would rather let it be natural or rely on Humans for, Anatomy and Tactics may be irrelevant for damage increase unless you are a Alpha or some other Hero type wolf.
Very good I cant say I have nothing to add you pretty much covered all my ideas I got as I continued reading. I'm at the moment doing something similiar that I'm testing. I'm role playing as evolution I started out as slime and I'm continuing to evolve
Since Polymorph has no timer, it stays until the caster casts another transformation spell or until the server is restarted. Using a Polymorph Scroll, is like a third method that does not require as many points in Magery. Polymorph is a seventh circle spell = around 70 magery minimum to cast it. With the scroll you will be able to lower it 2 circles = around 50 magery to cast it.
Ninja/Necro example: (missing veterinary) Ninjitsu Necromancy Healing Anatomy(50) Hiding Stealth(50) Fencing Tactics(50) Tracking(50) for a pure Trickster drop Necromancy, none of your wolves will be Real. Scroll/Taming example: (veterinary helps with training wolves) Magery(50) Animal Taming(50) Animal Lore(50) Veterinary Healing Anatomy(50) Hiding Stealth(50) Fencing(50) Tactics(50) Tracking(50) reliably casting Polymorph off a Scroll may require jewelry. adjustments, shift a (50) or drop one skill to take another to GM.
I am going to have to develop this, soon. Gave it a try on a Young player that I ran into hunting around the orc fort by the name of Nicole Leandrea, and it was a total blast. There was much more personality in *pants*, *sniff*, *ears forward*, *ears lay back*, Grrrr, *tiles head* than any of my other characters. By studying wolf behavior information, there are quite a few actual ear, tail, face and other postures and antics that I need to add to the list of suggested emotes. It's actually its own language. When wolves meet one will always dominate. Dominance is demonstrated by the head and tail posture and by *parading*. If the relative rank is not clear there could be a scuffle, till one backs off. Risking a challenge up can cause immediate loss of rank. postures: *aggressive threat* - *bears teeth*, *bristles*, *ears forward* *defensive threat* - *bears teeth*, *crouching*, *ears back* *ambivalence* - *head down*, *ears forward*, *tail relaxed* *threatening submission* - *crouching*, *fear grin*, *tail wagging* *active submission* -*crouching*, *licks muzzle* (of the dominant) *obnoxious submission* -*crouching*, *whining*, *tail to the side* *passive submission* - *flatten ears*, *lays on back*, *paws beg* *fear running* - *tail tucked*, *fear grin*, *ears flat*, *whimpering* *play running* - *tail wagging*, *ears forward*, *purposeless sprinting* asserting dominance: *parade display* - *head high*, *tail up*, *trotting* *initiating submission* - *staring*, *growling*, *snapping* *bites snout* - *holds snout in maul* (of the supplicant) *bites neck* - *holds neck in maul* (of the supplicant) *stands tall* - *stands over top* (of one in passive submission) play behaviors: *play face* *play bow* *bouncing* *play running* *pokes with nose* *play bite snout* *play bite neck* *play fight* *pinning* scenting: *sniffing* (as ritual greeting, first the head then the tail) *scent marking* (by the dominant male in his territory) *raking* (flinging earth with the hind legs, aggressive behavior) *sent rolling* (method of carrying information back to the pack) exp. *stinks*, *smells like Deer*, *smells like Orc* vocalization: *howls* (individually for an answer to locate the pack) *group howls* (gathers pack and announces its presence in its territory) *barks*, *woof* (almost always an aggressive threat to other Canidae species) *warning bark* (distinct bark of a mother wolf warning her cubs away from danger) *identifying bark*, *greeting bark* (other modulations used in communicating) *mewling*, *yelps*, *whines*, *whimpers* (imitates calls used by infants, for submission) *growls*, *snarls* (used in threat behaviors, not while hunting) diet: Wolves need to eat a lot of protein. Wolves often go without food for three to four days, then gorge, eating as much as eighteen pounds in one sitting. Wolves have been known to bury extra and go back to it when the food is scarce. Their favorite prey is large ungulates (hoofed mammals) such as deer, elk, moose, caribou and bison. Wolves will also catch and eat rabbits, mice, birds, snakes, fish and other animals. Their main diet is meat from prey animals. This meat may be fresh or carrion. When they eat an animal, they eat more than just the meat and bones. They eat every edible part of it - meat, cartilage, fur, feathers, skin, hide, fats, marrow, blood, pieces of bone, organs. Prey animals are not the sole diet of a wolf. When game is scarce and vegetable matter is still available, they can subsists on that. Wolves are not "true carnivores" like their feline cousins. Wolves are (carnivorous) omnivores. Raw Meat vs Cooked Meat, even wolves find it easier to digest meat that has been broken down. Adults feed puppies who are too old to nurse but too young to hunt for themselves by regurgitation. Puppies beg for food by following the adults, whining, and pawing and licking at the adults’ mouths. This stimulates the adult wolves to throw up food which is in their stomachs. The puppies then eat the regurgitated food. Since they have already chewed and partially digested the food, it is nice and soft for the young puppies to eat. Both male and female wolves, and even wolves who are not the pups’ parents, will regurgitate to feed the puppies. territory: Wolf packs tend to occupy a defined territory. The territory size may be dictated by the movement and abundance of prey. A pack will defend its territory against other wolves if necessary. rituals: A solitary wolf will hunt smaller animals such as rabbits and other rodents. When in packs, wolves will successfully bring down larger mammals such as deer. A pack generally comprises 5 to 9 wolves, led by a dominant (Alpha) pair of a male and a female. The nucleus of a wolf pack is the (Alpha) breeding pair. An average litter is six pups. After the pups are trained to hunt and kill, they may choose to leave the pack or remain as helpers themselves. The pups are born in spring, and by Fall all the pups are ready to start hunting with their parents. The female gives birth to four to seven pups, which are cared for by their parents and other pack members, known as helpers. Only one male and one female in each pack will mate a year. You can determine the social hierarchy of the pack by watching: It's the alpha pair who usually eat first and who successfully reproduce. Wolves also act out their hierarchy via body language and submissive behavior. Dominant members of the pack can often be seen with their ears and tails up; subordinate pack members show their submissiveness by lowering their ears and tails, sometimes by rolling on their backs to expose their bellies to dominant members. Regardless of social rank, when any wolf returns to the pack after an absence, the other pack members greet him or her with muzzle licking. The alpha male does not always eat first. A sufficiently hungry wolf can eat first. Even a low-ranking animal can defend food until it is done eating, and whoever wants the food most usually gets it. An exception to this is the omega wolf, a very low-ranking, "scapegoat" wolf who lives on the fringes of the pack. Omega wolves usually eat last. The omega wolf ranks lower than any other wolf. It usually sleeps away from the other pack members and may not engage in much social behavior, like howling or greeting. The other wolves may make a "game" of picking on the omega wolf, biting it and driving it away from food. At other times, the omega may be tolerated or even accepted into group activities. This wolf may be able to eventually work itself back higher in the rank order or it may eventually choose to leave and form a new pack. Howls may serve as alarms, as declarations that a hunt is over, as warnings to ward off another pack, or as devices to find pack members who have strayed. Clues to the function of howling may come from daily and seasonal variation in the frequency of howls. For example, biologists have noted that wolves howl more often early in the morning and at evening. Growling and snarling are part of social aggression — expressions of an intention to fight, used between wolves. Wolves do not growl or snarl at their prey. Wolves who are hunting look very excited and happy, even "friendly". Their tails wag, their ears are up, and they are quiet. They stare at their prey and look very focused. experimental template1: Ninjitsu Fencing Tactics(50) Parrying(50) Bushido(50) Anatomy(50) Healing(50) Hiding(50) Stealth(50) Tracking(50) Detect Hidden(50) Forensic Evaluation(50) requirements: Ninjitsu | Magery transforming method things that can be added: Ninjitsu | Magery for transforming, Ninjitsu Animal Form gives double movement Necromancy | Animal Taming for creating wolf followers, Dark Wolf gives wolf mastery Fencing | Wrestling for combat, with or without the Tekagi Animal Lore and Veterinary for keeping trained wolves as pets, having my doubts things that can be dropped: Anatomy and Healing makes wolves dependent on fleeing when injured and healed by humans Parrying and Bushido only usable with Tekagi because it's two handed Fencing and Bushido add Wrestling, carrying a shield is that too weird? Tactics may be irrelevant, but having crappy damage seams like no fun Detect Hidden and Forensic Evaluation may only apply to scout or hunter wolves Hiding and Stealth seem like good skills, but are not a necessity Tracking... because of its short range is one of the big disappointments of UO for me experimental template2: Ninjitsu Wrestling Tracking Healing Anatomy Hiding(50) Stealth(50) Detect Hidden(50) Forensic Evaluation(50) comments: About Forensic Evaluation, it can be used when a dead animal is found in your territory - the skill can give you information about who killed it. This may be important in determining if a loner or rival pack has been hunting in your range. It may work well enough at the Human Racial Bonus level of 20% already. You know what? I say get that Ninjitsu up and just play the character and to hell with the template.
Ninjitsu for the wolf Animal Form instead of Magery, the ninjitsu wolf form gives double movement rate and healing Wrestling instead of Fencing, the Tekagi looks nice but is way to powerful Hiding and Tracking are the core skills. Healing can be done by toggling wolf form (while hidden). The damage increase from Anatomy and Tactics are irrelevant because when wolves spar it is not to the death and if they are trying to kill large prey they will be in a group. Wolves should not be going up against monsters/brigands/red healers/other players alone. Basic Template: Ninjitsu, Wresting, Tracking, Hiding Skill Packages: Animal Taming/Animal Lore/Veterinary/Herding (taming would have to be done in private, due to excessive automatic speech) Stealth/Detect Hidden/Taste ID/Snooping (hide then toggle out of wolf form to do Taste ID) Example: Ninjitsu 100 Wresting 100 Tracking 100 Hiding 100 Detect Hidden 50 Forensic Evaluation 50 Animal Taming 50 Herding 50 Stealth 50 Snooping 50
We are getting a lot of inquiries about our realistic wolf RP. The rules are: only appear in game to other players as a Wolf and do not use Verbal communication. You are limited to *emotes*, noises, movements and whatever else you can think of. Imitating canine behaviors turns out to be surprisingly expressive. Some of the best RP I have seen comes from these Wolf characters. It is very easy to get started. Anybody can create a new character with Ninjitsu 50, Wrestling 50. That is enough ninjitsu to cast Animal Form for the dog. This will make you a wolf pup, to start. Wrestling 50 will be enough to hunt rabbits on your own, that is about it. At this stage you will need to be in a pack to survive. Currently there are two packs, Storm Cloud Pack and Saw Tooth Pack. The Saw Tooth Pack has no alpha female, so you will be a pup in the Storm Cloud Pack - since the alpha pair are the exclusive breeders in a pack, Alpha Male: Kajika (walks without sound) Alpha Female: Hipamika (sharp teeth) will be your parents; until we get a female for Nagogth. If you decide to first develop your ninjitsu, you will need to work it up to at least 85 to cast the Animal Form, Wolf Form. I recommend 90 or 100 because fizzling is annoying and there will be lots of skill points to spare. Starting as an adult, you have more options. You can take a free slot in one of the existing packs, roam the area as a loner. Lone wolves are likely to be driven out of established pack territories, unless you can take over the position of the Omega and work you way up the pack hierarchy from there. http://www.rpring.com/wolf-character-stories/5021-wolf-pack-news.html ? is an open slot. Rudedi is no longer a pup. That needs to be updated. Names for Wolves will not be Blank Wolf like Wolf Clan people. They are usually native names that have a wolf themed meaning: Nagogth (snake killer) Stu'oqe'e (mouse hunter) Here are some or our resources: Wolf Clan Origin Myth Cheyenne names ^^ sorry about the flashing banner The major rituals that Wolves observe are: Reinforce the pack hierarchy, whenever two wolves meet one will submit. Share responsibility for caring for the pack's pups, by bringing back meat to the densite. Participate in group activities, group howl at dawn, dusk, during hunts. Group hunts, will have a leader who will target larger pray with a larger group. Senting, *roll* on things that you find on the ground to pick up the sent. When other wolves *sniff*, now you can give them information, *smells like mongbat*.
